With Cunning Needle – Four Centuries of Embroidery

The exhibit we have all been waiting for is finally open!  With Cunning Needle – Four Centuries of Embroidery opened last Friday, Sept 2nd at Winterthur.  The exhibition will be open until January 8th, 2012 – so get your plans together to see it.

The exhibition uses the Plimoth Jacket as the central touchstone to explore makers, materials and techniques over four centuries of embroidery.  I have already heard from some who were there the first weekend and they said it was wonderful.  One said that “she loved how the jacket was set as a gem at the front”.

This exhibition is really a testimate to your support.  Not just of the jacket but of the exhibition itself.  I don’t have the final tally yet (as we are still selling Tulip needlework nibbles) but the exhibition would not be the size it is without the support that the community of needleworkers gave to the cause.  So pat yourself on the back.  To my counting – between support to make the jacket and for the exhibition – almost 1000 people got involved.  THAT is impressive.  Look at what we can do together when we pool our pennies.  I am thinking about the new glove storage at the Fashion Museum in Bath as well.

Headed down to the Cunning Needle conference at Winterthur in October. I would not have known about it without the ‘net connected needlework community (of which you are a central part). Can hardly wait to see the exhibit and soak up the classes! -k.

Ditto the above. Can’t wait for October and the whole jacket project has been an awesome experience.
