Making New Hardware

So by the end of the day, Alan had a series of pieces to remake.  He also had a request, could he also remove the piece off the door of the yucky casket.  It was a broken escutcheon.  Most likely broken when removed to get the destroyed embroidery off and put the rubber cement on for the brocade.  He wanted to fix it and then made a mold as these small pieces are so hard to come by.  I thought that was fair, maybe I will make this one available, what do you think?

I personally like the more frequently seen one, and that is what I am going to be using.  But having a variety might be nice as well.  What do you think?

The original for the outside of the yucky casket is more dainty, and is designed with the keyhole at ninety degrees to the one chosen. Will the chosen escutcheon fit the vertical position of the outside front and its lock box?

I know very little about any of this, Tricia, but it seems to me that they are for use in different situations. The one you showed us first looks like it would go on a horizontal fitting such as a lid or a draw. The broken one looks more fitting for a vertical situation like a door.

It’s nice, too, but definitely the one you picked.

Variety is nice! They are different enough that in some situations one may be more suitable than the other. One is skinny and long, the other wider and shorter. Now I may have to make 2 cabinets! LOL!

Since part of the beauty of this class is our ability to apply the technics and materials to other projects it would be nice to have access to multiple choices, especially in hardware. Can we order one of each style of box ?

Like most of us will think there shouldn’t be more choices? Yes, copy it, too!!!

Its beautiful~ I REALLY like the dainty and ‘quirky~ness’ about it…I would love to have the oppertunity to buy a set…..for a second casket of coarse~ good grief, HOW are we supposed to make just ONE??? Im 40….I think I DEFINATELY have two caskets in me :)

Cant express my gratitude enough Tricia, for the oppertunity to be in the class and make my own casket with everyone else~ ITs REALLY going to be exciting to see how different everyones come out.

May I ask, WHAT is your favorite ‘part’ of the casket…besides the obvious embroidery panels??? I would have to say mine is the BUNN feet…I have always admired them and cant picture a casket without them!

    XOXOXOXOXO rachael

Yes, Rachael, the feet are a feature that sets the caskets of curiosity apart from being just a “box”. Love the fluted sets!

I LOVE the broken one, but agree that it’s probably for a specific site. I’m 62, and have been waiting for this my whole life-I would love to more than one! Can we get the traveling box they come in, too? Pushy, pushy! Jan
